Principal consultant with NCir - a  Washington, D.C. based firm providing consulting services to private and public sector clients on technological developments impacting next generation networks. He has been a Kendra Initiative participant since it was founded in 2000.  His recent projects have included investigating IPv4 to IPv6 transition issues, commercial models for traffic exchange of data, voice and video content between Internet backbone networks, and next generation p2p applications implementation for service providers.

Previously he was President of mediagate Inc., from April 1999 until April 2001. mediagate pioneered the use of digital signal processing (DSP) technology in Internet-based universal communication servers and software with call processing for data, voice, and fax and universal messaging applications for the Internet. Before joining mediagate, Hussain was executive vice president, Global Multimedia and Data Services for AGIS a US tier 1 ISP acquired Teliasonera in 2000. At AGIS he was responsible for the development and management of global multimedia products and services such as voice, video and universal messaging. Hussain previously served as director, Internet Strategy and Planning for MCI. He played a key role in defining and directing the implementation of the company's Internet strategy, including new services and policies, and developing strategic business alliances.

Prior to joining MCI, Hussain held several positions at Sprint. He was a National Science Foundation's (NSF) Principal Investigator for the NSFNET transition, managing the design and deployment of the New York NAP (Network Access Point). Hussain supported the development of network products associated with high-performance computing and communications at Sprint and also had product planning responsibilities for the company's commercial Internet service, SprintLink.

From 1996-98 he served on the Board of the Federation of American Research Networks, and from 1998-2000 as Treasurer and Board Member of the Commercial Internet eXchange [CIX] a US based organization representing the Internet service provider industry. He received a doctor of philosophy degree from King's College, University of London in 1979. From 1980 – 82 he was a Ford Foundation Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Center for International Security, Stanford University and at the Center for Science and International Affairs, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
