Reconstruction of the original Watson Crick double helix DNA model

dna-model-rebuild -3This model of DNA was reconstructed 23 years after it had first been put together by Jim Watson and Francis Crick at the Cavendish Labs Cambridge. Farooq Hussain, then at the Department of BioPhysics, King's College, University of London, was led to find a majority of the pieces of the original model in tea chests that had been sent to the University of Bristol, Department of Chemistry, by John Kendrew, of the Cavendish Labs. The project was carried out only after Crick and Wilkins and Watson and Crick had confered regarding the authenticity of the components of the model and the historical interest in the specific features of the original model.

The completed model together with a model of Linus Pauling's triple helix structure for DNA were donated to the Science Museum in London, England.

Commercial Internet eXchange Router

CIX ANS Routing

A routing exchange map between CIX router connected member network service providers (at first PSInet, UUNET/Alternet, and CERFnet) and ANS, the for profit operator of the NSFNET. ANS was created and owned by IBM, MCI and Merit, a non-profit organization of the University of Michigan. ANS was a for profit privately held corporation and held de facto monoply control over which network service providers were able to exchange traffic with other NSFNET connected networks. By establishing the CIX and its router member networks were no longer dependent on ANS in order to be able to exchange traffic with one another.

The CIX Router and documentary records of the CIX have been aquired by the Smithonsian Museum of American History, Washington D.C.
